Default Front nose bracing??

I noticed something today and don't know if it's normal... When the hood is up and you're looking at the front of the car where the vacuum pods are at I see a metal brace that goes from one side to the other and I believe the vacuum valves are bolted to it too. Anyway there is a 1/4" gap and is even all the way across above the metal bracing to the body. Is this normal?? I don't have a picture of it but if that's not correct can someone attach a pic. on how it's suppose to be. This is for an 82.

Thanks!

Someone please help, yes the reinforcement bar has separated from the body. I took a pic. and uploaded it to Photobucket but can't figure out how to post it here. Can I repair this item myself?? It's still attached on the sides I think. Is there a link anywhere on how to perform this repair?

Yes. SMC compatible bonding compound and some C clamps will probably do it.

Well would you leave everything in place or remove the headlight assemblies? I can push down on the surround but then it bubbles up on the other side, so if I would "C" clamp it with everything still in place I'm afraid I might crack the fiberglass...

I answered in your post about removing the headlights. Personally, I would not do any work I did not have to do. You might be able to rebond the support bar with the headlights in place.

Your C clamps will not have enough force on them to break fiberglass. All you will be using them for is to bring the header bar back to the hood surround panel and hold it in place while the bonding compound sets up.

OK but the weird thing is is the bar itself will not move, it's tight so I would have to pull the surround down to it causing the hood to stick up at the point of the hood. Yes I don't want to do anything that doesn't need to be done. I guess I will experiment with some "C" clamps and see how it looks. I would think though since the bar pilled away it would be loose??
