I believe the trouble starts if you 'nick' the glass's edge even a TINY bit with a metal tool.
Amen to that! Personal experience speaking here. I tried to sneak out the screws that attach the trim clips to the windshield frame (who came up with that moronic design when most cars use clips that snap on to little studs in the window frame?). Unfortunately, I put a tiny chip in the edge of the windshield with my little screw driver. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but the next morning I walked into the garage and saw a crack through the windshield top to bottom! The crack originated exactly from where I nicked it with the screw driver. It didn't happen immediately. Strange. But still, Ugh!
At least it wasn't the original date coded windshield, or I'd have been very upset!!
Oh well, my new windshield looks great; All clear, chip and scratch free!
Yeah they did a great job... the last palce that did it had it 3/4 on an inch out of wack..(sitting to low) Had a hugh gap at the top and they keep trying to tell me thats how they all are....Yeah Right!
The problem was that when the first people did the job they tweeked the molding and when the second palce went to try and fix there fups it cracked.. and this place is that good it stands behind their work so they wouldnt stop till it was right... So after they cracked 2 they got the tweeks out of the molding and its in perfect now. I Couldnt ask for a better job at a cost of 310.00.. well it didnt cost me thing it was an insurance job.
Huh! Is there something about C3 windshields that makes them harder to replace than other cars? Removing and replacing a windshield on some cars is pretty easy. I had a '72 Buick Skylark, cracked the windshield. Removed the windshield from a car in the junkyard, and transported it home in a friends pick up truck, and installed it. (It still had 7 months left on the inspection sticker!)
Well, anyway, I'm glad to here that you eventually got your windshield installed correctly, in the long run, that's what counts.
