Wanted to put speakers where they didn't show or take up any storage space.... this is what I did.
Going to mount Rockford Fosgate P200-2 between the two 6x9 Infinities
Of course I covered the whole top with Dynamat before anything else.
Piece 3/4" of aluminum C-channel epoxied to plenum so mounting enclosure can slip into it and then is attached by three screws at the back on a "lip" that is above the courtesy light on the back wall. The enclosures are not sealed....they are full of poly to dampen any vibrations that would "muddy" the sound.
Also putting Dynamat on the entire interior of the car....

Interesting approach. But, don't be surprised if the high frequencies are weak/muddy; the speakers are aimed directly down into the carpeting of the storage compartment. High frequencies don't reflect well off of carpeting, so they will be dampened quite a bit.
Still, it should sound OK. And, you still have the storage compartment space.
P.S. Hope you have sturdy speaker covers so that 'stuff' you put in the storage compartment can't damage them.
Thanks, not the optimal speakers placement for sure....probably be like having on headphones...we'll see how they sound with the amp and all hooked up.......plus the other speaker boxes in the corners would really sound muffled if you were on a trip and had gear packed in front of them..shouldn't be an issue with where my speakers are positioned...not being seen was huge for me and wanting to run 6x9s there weren't many options.
Some 5.25 can be fitted to kick panel location behind the panels. A mounting plate must be used to separate the front from back sound waves to prevent cancellation for better bass. The speaker should be solidly mounted so that the movement of the speaker cone is translated into sound. The tweeters can be put in the dash.
Your right Ganey...was an option...even had the dash out and looked real hard at putting in, even fitted a couple of times, some Infinity 4x6...could have made it work... the kick panels were and still are an option with the 4x6 Infinities...but I figure the 6x9s will most likely over power the fronts so much that I am going to try it with just the two speakers.. much more bass...without a sub.
the only sub I would even remotely consider would be a Kicker Free Air 8 in the jack storage.....but we'll see how the Infinities sound. Really didn't want to spend a fortune on the sound, wife and I are usually together and either are visiting or just enjoying the ride with the tops off...but don't want a crappy sound either... life is good!
Hey for what it's worth... I really posted this for those that have struggled like I did with "where the heck" to place speakers that wouldn't show...
Hadn't seen anything like it, so I wanted to share my instillation as a viable option, to boxes in the corners, dash, or kick panels.
