I've got one, it was on the car when I bought it. Back when it was the daily driver in the summer I was happy to have it, especially when the price of gas went crazy back then (I think it went up to something like .50/liter, that's like 2.50 / gal!)
Now days when it's spending it's days in a locked garage and only sneaks out for day cruises and a few local gatherings/shows, it's kind of a pain.
Wish I had a stock cap

Oh, don't think it's a GM, key is marked Briggs and Straton, figure that one out
I ended up getting a repro one for my 68 just because I'm paranoid after someone siphoned the tank of one of my cars years ago while it was parked down the road from work. As I've got a 68 I needed a vented cap but it seems to vent a lot more than the original.
How many of you use a locking gas cap and if you do is it the factory GM one?
I didn't think any of the locking gas caps were factory installed? I thought all the locking gas caps were dealer installed accessories - like the luggage racks.
It is a GM cap that you would buy as an accessory, I don't believe it ever came stock on the car but it is a GM product.
GM part number 3994340
Something about having that large hole in the back that is so easy for anyone to drop anything in bothers me - that may have something to do with what this new engine is costing, let alone the fuel cost.

All of the ones I have seen have keys from Briggs.
Presently, don't have locking gas caps on my cars, but maybe not a bad idea, with the upword spiral in gas prices. Read articles, where guys are driving around in vans having holding tanks, with holes cut in the floor. They'll drive over gas station in ground storage tanks, and pump some out. Gotta give em' points for creativity on that one, but still thieves.
I have a locking cap just as a precaution as I don't leave the car in too many places where it can be tampered with. Also price of petrol down under is reaching $1.50 a litre for standard (over $5 a gallon) so removing the temptation is always a good thing.
Regards
Robert
I carry an aftermarket locking cap in the rear compartment.
If I'm going somewhere I may be away from the Vette(not likely) I'll stick it on.
Just a precaution and way to keep my original from being swiped
Don't have one, but I wanted to replace the old cap so maybe now is the time.
Bad enough having gas stolen from you, try having your tank drained after a night of drag racing. CAM2 racing gas - likely it ended up in someone's pinto so they could get home.

My car came with GM locking gas cap but I took it off and put the original back on for show purposes. At a car show a friend caught a guy trying to pour a beaker of clear fluid into my gas tank. He had the door open and cap off when caught. I notified the cop at the show and he was escorted out. I put the locking cap back on. Found out later that it was grain alcohol.

Just ordered my GM NOS cap. It seems like a $29 cap is cheap insurance. While I am careful there are many times, like a car show, that the car is left alone. Someone keyed my El Camino at a car show so I know crap happens.

Question is, could you pull the trigger on someone stealing your gas? And then deal with the hell you're sure to go through from the police.
Yeah I dont think shooting someone over a few gallons of gas is going to look good in court.... Just sayin..... You can have the gas just dont scratch the car.
