I think different states are different....in Texas we used to pay only on the difference in the trade. If I remember in Oklahoma if it's a used vehicle you pay on what the seller valued it at....you should be able to get that info from your DMV

Check with your DMV; they can tell you. In my state you pay sales tax on the purchase price or blue book value, whichever is higher. The exception is vehicles sold between family members. No sales tax on those types of transfers.
