Your engine was assembled on December 12 (I2I2 - they are Is) then shipped to St. Louis. It would have been on hand before they began assembly of your car.

Thanks pretty cool info. So the engine was assembled on December 12th.They started assembling it befor christmas and finished it the the day after christmas on Tuesday...neet info.

At the time the trim tag was installed, your car had already had the body assembled and had been through paint. Body assembly and paint could take a working day or so.
Another factor to consider was when the tag was attached. They ran two shifts at St. Louis, so your car could have had the tag attached on the first shift during the day, or the second shift (evening).

The engine assembly plants often used a capital I in place of a numeric 1. You can also find them in combination. Your stamp could easily have been I212.
This was not the practice at St. Louis. They used numeric 1s for the VIN derivitive stamps they made.
