Hey there gang. My 1977 coupe's tires are dry-rotted and losing air fast. After sitting at the garage, where the car was recently painted, for a few months, I am afraid that some or all of them have finally bit the dust.
I have a few general questions about an upcoming tire purchase. She is a weekend cruiser, not a track car or driven hard, so what kind of tires would everyone think is best? From what I can gather, the original tires are not being reproduced by anyone. And where can I get the best deal from?
Forgive me as I am sure this topic has been covered many times before. But after 15 minutes of using the search function, I couldn't come up with any answers.
Stock size is 225/70-15. There are no original pattern tires available in the general marketplace unless Coker tire has begun production recently but those will be quite expensive if available. I would call around locally and see who offers the best installed price on all 5 (don't forget your spare!!!!) and buy whatever is the best deal. They'll all be DOT certified and will cruise you safely for years to come.
I use BFG Radial T/A's. I think they look nice, and you can get them 225/70R15 (http://www.jegs.com/i/BF-Goodrich/13...85#moreDetails). They will set you back around $120 each. You can order them online, or call around to the local tire shops, and see if they have, or can get them.
Just bought some from Tirerack.com a couple of weeks ago. No one here locally could beat that price even with me having to put them on when they got here. Very satisfied with them, and they arrived quick. :woohoo
The Delta Majestic (no snickers please) tires on my 77 in 225/70-15 cost $246 for 4 delivered, FET included, brand new. $90 to get them mounted and balanced for a total less than $350 for the whole deal. I intend to cruise them, no racing or track days. Radial TAs and Firestones are nice sneakers, but I would prefer to spend the dollars saved on some other safety related repair than have those sexy white letters on the sidewall.
Hey guys! Just wanted to drop in and say that I decided on the BF Goodrich Radial T/A's. They were installed Friday, and ride quality has been substantially improved. It handles much better as well. One never appreciates how much of a difference tires really make until he gets new ones lol.
Sorry I don't have pictures ready. I know, I know, "Pics or it didn't happen". But she needs a bath before her photoshoot Friday and I will try to get some up soon after.
