Default No spare tire key

I planned on dropping my gas tank this weekend so I went to spray the bolts and drop the spare. No key, any suggestions.

2 bolts hold the lock post bracket on. Gotta take that bracket off anyway to remove the top cover over the spare to access the gas tank.
Take it off with the lock in place, spray the lock up with WD40 or such.
Door key SHOULD fit the spare tire lock.

On my '69, the glove box key fits the spare lock.

Cheers,
Pete

Didn't see the bolts, I will have to check it out.
I only have one key that works doors and ignition, missing the othe key.

Shoot the lock well with penetrating oil to cut any internal corrosion/rust. Drive it to a locksmith. He/she will remove the lock.

A tension bar and a rake pick opened the lock on my 68 in about 20 seconds

The lock is held in place by a spring-loaded rod opposite the hole in the side of the assembly see...

You want to push a wire or something through the hole, around the bolt for the spare wheel and push on that rod while pulling the assembly down and off. I made my little tool from a piece of stainless off a wiper blade. See...

This last photo is a poor picture of the tool pressing on the pin.

It's easier to work from the right side of the hole when the lock is installed.
Hope this helps,

Joe
