I was working on final prep before carpet and discover a couple minor cracks in my 75 floor and in the bottom of the battery bay / storage area. At least I hope they're minor.
I'm wondering what the best way would be to correct the problem. I know some of you guys have come across this issue and probably can trouble shoot a solution for me.
This is the area of floor just ahead of the drivers side right front seat bolt along the center of the car.
It is only visible is I push down hard on it, but it's there. So while I have everything out of it, I'd like to fix it right.
This is the area in the bottom of the battery bay. Same situation, it's visible with a strong push.
I'm hoping for a minor repair. But I don't want to "Bubba" it. Many thanks for the advice.
Lay up a repair. Since the battery box is not an appearance area, your repair work does not have to be 100% perfect.
Yepper, grind out and lay matt and resin... I would tape some bondo spreaders (or aluminum foil) on the bottom side of the repair as the resin won't stick to the spreaders when you lay from the top... You can use tape on the underneath, but the resin will stick to tape...
Probably go with 3 to 4 layers of matt and resin to make it thick and as Mike said, this really isn't an appearance area...
I can't see your pictures here at work but here is the crack I had (if you look close you can see a previous repair attempt.) This was my first try at glassing so I have a few bubbles but it's a whole lot stronger than it was. I even added some reinforcement to the passenger side before I put down the Lizardskin heat and sound barrier.
BTW, Guys, If you need to put some tape on the backside of a repair, use Aluminum HVAC tape, you can get it at home depot. Sticks just fine and resin wont stick to it.
