Need HELP '76 wiper well flapper
I need your advice (I am no mechanic and am learning as I go with my 15 year old son), I have been experiencing the typical heat within the cabin. I have put a shut off valve in the hose leading to the heater core which helped a lot but I still get warm air coming out of ALL the vents. I have not checked the hood seal but plan to. The flapper in the wiper well on the passenger side does not seal completely the edge is cracked or torn.
1. What is the proper name for this part because I can not find the replacement part in Ecklers.
2. How do you replace this part and is there one on the drivers side too?
3. What sealant do I use to repair the cracks and gaps in the existing black tar looking sealant where the bird cage mounts to the fire wall and other places?
Thank you for your help,
Hal

I couldn't find it on Ecklers' site either.
But you can get it from Willcox: Air Conditioning Fresh Air Plastic Flap Door 68-82
If the vacuum actuator is shot, they have those also.
I haven't replaced mine yet, but it looks like it shouldn't be difficult, just time consuming. Will have to remove the screen and probably unbolt the pass. side wiper post to swing it out of the way. The flap door is attached to the car with 3 screws. If you resuse your actuator, you'll have to transfer it to the new door.
I don't believe there is one on the driver's side, since the blower motor is on the pass. side (you can see it when you take out the old flap door).

And I forgot to mention . . . there should be a small vacuum line routed through the firewall that attaches to a 'coupler' on the assembly. It will just pull off.

Check the AIM; if memory serves, door and hinge screw into a tapping plate.
No. On factory AC cars, both vents on the driver's side are sealed off.
I used 3M automtive undercoating in the rattle can. Dries very dark brown, but can be painted semi-flat black.
...is there one on the drivers side too?...
...What sealant do I use...
