Default Inspection

I have an 82 corvette. None of the safety switches work. Like there's no door open warning switch and no ignition buzzer. I was wondering if I would need those to pass inspection in Texas.

Doesn't look like it

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/vi/...nCriteria.aspx

I used to live in Texas for a while, the emissions test is just visual - making sure the cats are still on there.

Dang I don't think I have cats. I thought there was an exemption for cars 25 years or older

My insection station busted my b$$ls about the emergency brake the first time I took the car in. He doesn't even ask about it on my daily driver! I just put it into 3rd gear now so I can stall the engine. Last year he wanted to see the windshield washers working. You have to be kidding! I actually fixed them last summer so they will work this year.

Its all about who you get inspecting it. Some inspectors think they are pretending they are inspecting the space shuttle, while others realize you have other crap to worry about.

I have not had a vehicle inspected in TX, but I have in 4 states and only ever had a problem in KY. Once on bike--wanted front and rear turns to work. Had rears but no fronts (bike had been raced). Fixed, came back, different guy doesn't even ask for signals.

Same guy that turned my bike down did the same thing with the Vette. No horn. I tried to convince him the car came without one. He was too old to buy that.

It depends on which county in Texas.

Collin is an emissions county. You will need:
Egr valve
Air pump
Thermostatic air cleaner
Early fuel evap system.
But no cat, not required until 84.
You are exempt from tailpipe testing but not visual emissions inspection.
Plus the usual safety stuff.
Working headlights, tail lights, brake lights, turn signals
Horn, wipers, good wiper blades and of course parking brake.
Non of the emission equipment has to work, it has to look like it works.
Does the parking brake work at all?

You may want to look at Historic Tags. In Missouri you do not have to get inspections after you get Historic Tags. Missouri is anything over 25 years. In MO, you save on personal property tax and insurance also.

You need to consider getting it fixed. There are a few places around that may let it slide.

Gwalker, in Texas they are antique tags. Car shows and parades only. Most cops don't care, a lot of people run them.
Mike

I wouldn't recommend them for a daily driver

Does anyone know how much it would cost to fix assuming all I have is the parking brake lever?

That would be an impossible guess. Anywhere from a $32 cable to a ta rebuild. I could take a look at it and give you a better idea.
