When I installed my carpet, I just cut small slits in the carpet where the bolts went in. Didn't bother with making large holes. The carpet I got from Willcox did not really need alot of trimming, other than the area covering the cargo doors. I also did the back first, and then the front. It is easier to do the pieces that go along the tranny tunnel with the seats removed.
I like to put some heat shielding down (dry fit) then spray glue after everything is cut just right. If you are on a budget you can buy a roll of reflective insulation at the local lowes or home depot. I metal tape all seems.
Then lay your carpet...make cuts...dry fit. Then glue...be careful do it outside.
The glue can kill you...I did one with the garage door up and fogged myself. Not my smartest day.I was only doing a small amount of spraying at a time and did not think it would add up. Got a phone call...came into the house to take the call and saw the cloud of spray glue. It looked like a fog of grey.
I felt like crap for days.
Also when you are done make sure you still have the seal of foam at your tranny and you will have a nice new carpet and a cooler corvette.
Good luck
