I work part time for one of the "big box" auto parts chains. Been there for 3 years, since I retired from my full time career. I've been working on my cars for something like 45 years, and bought a LOT of parts.
Unless it's an emergency, and I need something "right now", 9/10 I buy from Rock Auto. They have access to most anything you'll need, and even with shipping figured in, their prices are less that what I'd pay at the store where I work, even with my "employee discount".....
I don't mean to stray too far from the original topic but you reminded me of a tip that I thought I'd share with all concerning one "big box auto parts store" in particular:
If anyone is considering a purchase from Advance Auto Parts do a search on the net for their coupons or discount codes first. They are almost always running an online special! You can order your parts on line using the discount code, then arrange to go pick the part up locally. It only takes a few extra minutes to check and you stand to save a few bucks. They won't honor the discount if you go to the counter first. You have to order on line. Go figure. It seems like a strange policy to me but I won't argue with their offer to save me money, no matter how obscure the rules are.
Rock Auto is always my first stop for all my cars (new and old). Great prices and great selection. They have a new feature that allows you to mix and match parts so that you can ship from as few locations as possible.
They ALWAYS have a 5% discount code. You can search the interweb on your magic computer box for a current code, but here is one that is good through May 6, 2012: 85854771798607
They have a verry good customer support! Got an item that was not working, wrote an email, MINUTES later got response with the instructions for returning and exchange.

Very true, but their "discounts" are usually only 15%, and on MOST items, they're at least 20-25% more than Rock's prices....
I can only imagine, man! Isn't Hawaii like, half-way to Australia from here?
Keep the shiny side up!

I have used Rock Auto to ship to Australia! Loved the discontinued stock specials they had when I was ordering (+ the 5% discount from an online coupon) and freight worked out cheaper that certain other vendors as well which is important for down under where the freight is on average 1/4 to 1/3 of the total cost of your orders!
Rockauto is not a forum sponsor. (Last I heard.) I received a warning from a CF moderator to cease references to them. The moderator had tallied up the number of posts that I had referenced them. Rockauto? Never heard of them.
