Is it just me or is the carpet I received the wrong pattern? Would someone post pics of the carpet over the rear wheel well so I can get an idea of what it is supposed to look like (72 T Top)? Ive been working on this for 2 days (just the wheel wells) using a heat gun, southern heat and still can't get this stuff to fit correctly. It has humps and air pockets that will not smooth out. I called American Custom Carpets today and they do not have any tech personnel to help. I purchased from a vendor on this site and called them as well. All they could say was that it is PITA to install. any help would be appreciated.

Reason: added picture
I can't help with your problem but I do feel your pain. When I changed mine a couple of years ago, I kept wondering if it was made for a specific car, it should have been molded or fit better. Stick with it and good luck.
Thanks for the reply but I've about given up on this set and think I'm going to buy another. Will sale what's left for $100 if anyone is interested. Saw a set on Full Throttle Corvette's web site that appears molded perfectly. I'll never buy this ACC stuff again. Live and learn.
I'd be glad to let everyone know. There's no way anyone can tell me that the set I purchased was made for the 72 I am trying to install it in. Here's a picture of a set on the website of Full Throttle Corvette. I plan to call them Monday and ask if it really is molded to fit. If so, I'll buy it and count my losses and be sure to advise anyone to avoid ACC carpets.
I can tell you that even though it's molded it is still a PITA to fit.
I finally just let the rear section (over the wheels) of carpet sit out in the driveway under the hot sun for a couple of hours until it was a bit more pliable, and it went in very nice. I did not have to trim anything.
I got my carpet from ECKLER'S which was tagged AUTO CUSTOM CARPETS. Overall a very nice finished fit, and it looks great.
If I had to do it again I'd probably let the front pieces sit in the sun also, would have been a bit easier.

Make sure you ask them who makes their carpet, a lot of the vendors all sell the same stuff!
Hi Andy,
I spent a half a day on each side.
You need to juggle the cut-out for the shoulder belt reel, the tab for the shoulder belt cover, and the cut out for the astro-vent drain tube.
Besides that, you also need make sure that the piece is positioned correctly so that there will be enough, but not too much carpet, to tuck down between the fiberglass under body and the metal bulkhead behind the seats.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
look at alan's pictures and you will see a 'point' of carpet right in front of the shoulder belt retractor. then examine the carpet and you will see this bump. that's your starting point when you trial fit the carpet. as mentioned above, there's more custom work than there should be. good news is that once the wheel wells are done, 80% of the job is over. what type of adhesive are you using? there's no need to completely coat the glass with glue-it's unnecessary( look at the lines of adhesive under the old carpet) and the glue will get all over everything when you install it. i used construction adhesive that can be applied from a caulking gun under the carpet as you need it, not before you wrestle it into place.

I just replaced the original carpet in the front of my `73 with an Eckler's order and had also done my `74 about 5 years ago - same product, same quality and same trim points. Not difficult, just a bit tedious requiring a fair bit of patience.
Hi,
JNB is right about finding that "point" to begin.
Here's a picture of the original wheel-well carpet and underlayment, (its back-side). The "point" is more obvious from this side.
Regards,
Alan
After reading your comment about the "point" and the pics from Mr. Alan, I was able to get it installed. The passenger side looks good. But the drivers side (where I started) still has some bumps that just wont come out and I can't figure why. Other than that, Ill leave it alone.
