As Rosana Dana Dana used to say "It's always somthin"....cars in the shop having planned work done when they call me to tell me the side yolks are shot and need to be replaced. Stopped by and sure enough, you could see the excess movement. Research prices and of course Willcox came up with the best price. Another $500 down the gas tank. I guess, after it's all said and done....the yolks on me!!
Just did this on mine. I have over $1600 in just the rear of my car. b/w trailing arms new 9leaf spring and the differential. I'm going broke with the unforeseen. I love my car but wish I would have spent $5-9k instead of $3k. I am gonna way more than double or triple my purchase price into this car to make it the equivalent of a $9k car from the start

While unforeseen is never good, I was afraid when my shop called and said there was a problem with the rear thinking it might just be differential.

You have to remember all of these cars are at the minimum over 30 years old. Chances are no matter how nice a Corvette you buy reguardless of what you spent you are never done. It seems there is always going to be something to do and some money to spend. Expenses yes. Fun....suppose to be.
Supposed to be is right. If I was into half assing things I would be having fun and damn near done already and be driving it around months ago but I just don't see the point in tearing into this thing more than once so if i'm there I'm doing it all right the first time and the is a very expensive attitude lol

The whole car is an unforeseen expense. Once you get the main problems and parts replaced, it does get better. I try to look at it like a hobby, it's going to cost to play. Have you ever owned a boat or RV?

Really not complaining - just laughing (in a sense) because your right - the whole car is an unforseen expense - one I wouldn't trade!
And yes, I have owned boats, in fact my last one was appropriately named "Always Broke" because it was and I was!! LOL!
as 3Jsvette said, you could spend $20K for a car and end up rebuilding the whole thing. paying more for these old junks-oops classics- doesn't mean you're getting a better car-only a prettier one.
Ok, I love my SNL tributes as much as anybody and can appreciate a Roseanne Roseannadanna reference anywhere (just didn't think it would be at CF). In my case, and maybe others here, we're all Jane as far as wishing our cars were cheap to work on. I can explain the "ignorant" part, I'd rather not talk about the rest or I'll get verklempt.
