I'm a new member and I've been primarily scrounging through the parts section, but I did want to share a small success story.
We fired up the engine for the first time in my sons 1973 Coupe. It may not seem like much, but we started with a gutted shell the last week of December. We now have a complete drive train installed, 350/TH400 combo NOM. We have even have front and rear glass with an almost complete interior installed (Thanks to several members of this forum offering great deals in the parts section).
My son is 16 and we are going for function and safety to get this Corvette back on the road. He can do a full blown restoration when he gets a job and can afford it.
The big things left are we need to finish up the brake system and the real biggie, bodywork and paint.
Hi B,
NICE TALE!
Caution your son that he needs to study REAL HARD so he can get a GOOD JOB because that's what it takes to have a Corvette to enjoy these days!
GOOD LUCK!
Regards,
Alan
Outstanding father-son story and project! I've loved Vettes since the 60's (just turned 50) and always wanted one. Took me until two years ago to buy my first C3 (73 coupe). My two sons (21 and 20) also love C3's, so when I bought my 68 last spring, I gave them my 73. We have a lot of fun and am sure you and your son are creating memories to last a lifetime. I didn't want my boys to wait until they were my age to get their first Corvette and your story resonated with mine!
Thanks all. My son is a good kid, makes good grades, doesn't get in trouble (knock on wood) and rarely ask for anything. So I am happy to do this for him.
As far as a good job, I'm trying to work with him. He is leaning towards a History or English type major when he goes off to college and I'm trying to talk him into double majoring in Business to broaden his options when he graduates.
Thanks again, this is a great forum.
ps ... we shot the first coat of primer on the car yesterday!!!

Great story. Glad to see the whole father/son thing and also see someone so young excited about a C3 (as he should be)
We do, however, need pictures before it counts. If you can't figure out how to post them we can help you. Or better yet, let your son.

I know this is tough for a teen ager, but he should sit down and write out what he wants to be doing for a living in 8-10 years. If he does that, then he will make a good choice on what major he should pursue.
We do have lots of pics, just need to sit down and make time to start a build thread.
This weekend we hope to get the brake system functioning.
If we are lucky, we might even drive it!!!!
Not sure what my son will end up majoring in. But it's me and my wife's fault. We always told them they cold do what ever they wanted as long as they either got degrees, or tech school, or military. (FYI, I don't tell the younger ones that!!!!!)
Wow he should be thanking you a lot. Im 15 and i bought my corvette on my own and have to restore it on my own money. But my dad helps with the work too
