My first C3
I'm finally getting around to posting a bit about my first C3! I sold my 2006 Z06 last fall (in 30 minutes via this forum!) as I couldn't get rid of the C3 itch. Needless to say, I scratched it in a big way. I saw it advertised on eBay, flew out to Chicago and had it shipped back a day before Thanksgiving. PO owned it for the last 20+ years, frame-off restored and upgraded with the resto-mod components I was planning to add! Bonus is original components were included (rebuilt trans and shifter assembly, restored front suspension with PS pump, restored hard top, NOS trim rings and center caps, hood, AM radio, steering column (tilt/tele added), glass (original had some small scratches and PO was a perfectionist) etc etc. Two 2dx4lx4h crates full of original components! Included was original manual, protecto-plate, owner history (4-owner car), receipts etc. Tank sticker was disintegrated though he kept the pieces for CSI I assume :-)
Now in to the car - original 454 block bored .060 over, 398 hp at the rear wheels (via dyno). Trans built to exceed HP specs, rear end rebuilt, frame painted in por-15, VDP front and rear suspension, original calipers w/stainless sleeves painted red, drilled rotors, 17" cragar rims, Be-Cool radiator with dual electric fans, interior restored with all original components, underneath just as clean as the top. Painted in 1996 (hand-sanded and gel-coat with base-coat/clear coat in marlboro maroon). PO used enclosed trailer for all shows; only 5000 miles since total restoration. Had NOS for show, probably spent 1000 hours hand-bending every NOS line to the manifold. Washer fluid works, headlights work, wipers work, there was no stone unturned. So what do I do upon purchase? Drive the hell out of it. I can't help myself.
My knowledge on C3's is limited, and I haven't wrenched since I was 22 (when I was too poor to afford a mechanic's skill set). that said, this is the best hobby ever!! I'm currently adding a show-stopping stereo system (JL Audio HD900 with 13.5" sub in custom enclosure) with just a few personal components too make it mine.
Here's a few pics:
Let me know what you think! I'll post engine and interior pics soon.
Cheers to the C3 team!
