That's Grand Sport number 002, which belongs to Dr. Fred Simeone, and is part of his museum of vintage race cars in Philadelphia. That video was shot on March 24th, at the museum, I was there that day.

The 4th Saturday of each month, the museum has what they call their "Demo Day", when they take 3 or 4 cars out of the museum, and run them. They were scheduled to run the Grand Sport outside for March's Demo Day, along with their 53 Cunningham C4R and 53 Jag C-Type. Because of the heavy rain that day, they started the Grand Sport and Cunningham, but did not take them outside, but the doctor did take out both his Jag C-Type and D-Type and ran them in the rain.

Anyone wanting more info on the museum can check out their website at: www.simeonemuseum.org.

Below are some pictures of the Grand Sport, and the doctor driving the 53 C-Type Jag.

Hi,
NICE!
That car in my avatar is GS 001.
The little old man is Zora.
He drove 001 around the Carlisle fairgrounds a little on that day in 1993.
You could tell he knew a thing or two about Corvettes!
Regards,
Alan

I attended the 2003 Amelia Island Concours where all 5 GS where for the first time on display.....what a thrill to see and hear them when they drove to the hotel's entrance for a photo shoot.

Alan, I think that is the one I saw Kevin Mackay unload from his car carrier at Carlisle a couple of years ago.

What a sound

Unfortunately, I don't think any of the 5 original Grand Sports are being vintage raced anymore. For the most part, the Grand Sports running vintage races today, are the modern copies available from such companies as Mongoose and MAI. Besides the real 002, the Simeone Museum has a replica of 002, to take to vintage races.

There are a couple Forum members in the C1/C2 section, that are vintage racing recently built Grand Sports.

The Sunoco/Penske car (the one in Alan's avatar) use to be "raced" regularly in the 90's. I had the opportunity to see it a few times at Lime Rock and Summit Point. Somewhere around in my 5,000-6,000 old racing slides, I have some shots of it from back then.

The 000 car pictured below, is just one of the many "new" Grand Sports being vintage raced these days.

Awesome! That's very cool that you were there to see that, I'm sorry I didn't get to meet you. Thank you for posting the pictures, and I'll have videos up of the other cars starting up/driving in the rain.

I heard about that event, I am bummed that I didn't get to see that. That is a once in a lifetime opportunity there!

I love going over to the museum, especially for their Demo Days. I'm lucky enough to only live about 45 minutes from it.

The white haired guy that can be seen standing right behind the car in your video, is one of the guys I went over with that day. I was off to the right, when the Grand Sport was running, standing by the Cunningham, and just out of site in your video.

Default 1960s New Orleans Saints pre season party.

My aunt (mother's sister) was John Mecum Sr's executive secretary for about 20 years.

It would have been around '63 or '64 I believe, that John Jr had a pre season New Orleans Saints party in Houston. My aunt wrangled an invite for my mother and I, and we attended the party. I was in high school at the time.

The party was either at a large hotel or country club, I simply don't remember. But what I do remember was a light blue Grand Sport sitting inside the entry area. I couldn't get in it, but one could just walk up and "fondle" it a little :-) . I may be confusing my memory with something else, but it seems like it had 4 Webers on a cross ram manifold. But again, I may be confusing my mental images.

I'm not confusing the fact that I would have signed a deal with the devil to be able to park in my high school (Woodrow Wilson in Dallas) parking lot that following Monday.
