Default 1406 rebuild

Can a novice rebuild an Edelbrock 1406 carb. I have read and heard that they are fairly simple, but I am a novice at carb rebuilding.

If so, what should I watch for through the rebuild?

Appreciate in advance any help/suggestions that can be offered.

Simple...I would say very simple compared to a Holley but I love the Edelbrock-Carter-Weber, I really do not care for Holleys,

I had some trash in my fuel bowls and had the carb off, rebuilt and back on the car in about 30 minutes, perhaps 45,

Have a set of Torx drivers ready.

Just lay shop rags down and lay out each part as you take them off, the clips on the linkage like to go flying away,

Do NOT over tighten any bolts etc,

If you get in real trouble call Edelbrock or me, Lol....

Those look like Holley parts...not Q-jet (1406) parts.

The 1406 is an Edelbrock carb; but they bought the fab equipment from Rochester when Q-jet production for new cars was halted.

IMO, the best source of info on rebuilding the Q-Jet carb is Cliff Ruggles booklet titled, "How to Rebuild and Modify Rochester Quadrajet Carburetors" (ISBN 978-1-932494-18-1; S-A Design, SA113). It is an 8-1/2 x 11 soft-cover booklet that you can order through any book store or buy on-line at Amazon or eBay. It has all the info you need to know about disassembly, cleaning, rebuilding, modifying (if needed), and reassembly. List price is about $25, which is modest when you consider what a rebuild shop want's to do the work. $25 for the book, $30 for a rebuild kit (order on from Edelbrock for the #1406), $20 for a gallon can of carb cleaner, and you're ready to go. And, when you get done, you'll still have the carb cleaner and the book!

Very simple carb to work on. Here is a rebuild guide from Edelbrock. I saved this .PDF to my PC for later use.

Hope this helps,

My mistake. The Edelbrock 1406 is like the old Carter AFB....not the Q-Jet. {The Q-Jets were the 1900 series.}
