Anyone willing to rent me tools for trailing arm rebuild?
I am rebuilding my trailing arms and was wondering if anyone would be willing to rent me the tools for the rebuild. I could use the spindle knocker, the setup tool, the front bushing install tool and any other tools that would be helpful.
Thanks for any help,
Mike Davis

Those tools are expensive and can be damaged if not uses correctly. I doubt that folks would be willing to lend them (or rent them) to someone they don't know. Heck, I wouldn't lend my tools out to MOST folks that I DO know....

I just used my tool to install the bushings & flare the inner tube; Wilcox Corvette # x2480. $45. It makes life easy.
That is the only special tool I used. You can knock out the spindle carefully; you can get the inner bearings off with a cut off wheel and chisel. You may need a Sawsall to get the old bushings out. The chisel will get the old bushing liner out. The ends are bent sheet metal. They will bend. Clamps will help to prevent that. They are easy to straighten.
You are welcome to use it if you pay shipping back & forth.

Thanks for the offer Sam, I will send you a PM. I understand some aprehension about lending a precision tool. I had read a thread where multiple members were passing around a front crossmember repair tool and I just thought that someone might have done their own trailing arms and might not have plans of using them many more times. I might be willing to purchase the tools outright as well and then I could repost them after I used them. Just trying to save a few bucks.....
Thanks,
Mike

can't help with loaning tools, but I have a suggestion to make the job 99% easier the next time. Have a local machine shop turn the INNER bearing race a few thousandths and make it a "tight" slip fit. The inner bearing is press fit at the factory and that's what makes the job so difficult.

Duntov Motors in TX will sell you the spindle tools and then buy them back (you keep the spindle knocker). This is how I got mine a few years back. As far as the bushing tool, I made one myself. If you have basic metalworking tools it is pretty straightforward
