Default 1980 Headlight actuator question

Got tired of screwing around with these old headlights so I finally decided to buy all new replacement parts. My original actuators had a left one and a right one, both connectors for the red striped hoses were pointed towards the center of the car. The new pair I bought have both ports for the red hose pointing towards the drivers side. I contacted the vendor who said that either way is correct. Could someone verify that this info is correct? I know that the system will work no matter which way the inlet is facing but I want to have them in the correct positions. TIA for any help.

i believe there is a left and right actuator (at least that is the way it is on my 78 and i can't see that they would have changed it in 1980). take a look at some of the various parts suppliers and see what they call for (universal or left and right part numbers). try dr rebuild's site, keen corvette parts, corvette centra and zip to name a few. that should give you a good enough idea as to what is correct for your year.

I had the same question about my 71. The original (what was on my car) pointed out. Looking at all the vacuum diagrams it looks like they point in. So I did my first headlight pointed in and the hood almost caught on the hose I mean so close. So I turned mine back to the way they were, pointed out. I am curious to find out what is correct. One thing I am pretty certain of is they do not both point the same direction.

There does seem to be a left and right. Willcox checked a 79 and they both poibted to the drivers side. Anyone with an 80 that could check?

Kaz... that car was an old wore out car Norm checked... No telling what was done to it..

The actuators are symmetric except for the rear nipple and can be used on either side.

They are supposed to point toward the fender (outward).

If you purchased a pair of these from us, I'm going to assume one was boxed wrong. While they will work either way, you should have received two opposite actuators. If they came from us, give Tommy a call on Monday and we'll get this swapped out with you.
