Not sure what year car you have, but your trans should have the VIN stamped in it. From your name, guessing it's a '71 which would have a Muncie instead of the Borg Warner like my '77.
The location may be different due to the trans difference (not sure on that). Mine is on the drivers side right before the tail shaft housing.
That's a dandy question. I don't think anyone ever asked that before in all the years CF has been on the net.

You might be able to decipher the main case code but that would not be accurate to what the guts are. Even the number of circumferential rings on the input shaft (high gear) can be disputed.
