Well, you seem to have a pretty good grasp of the 'issues'. "Soft" edges on the speaker cones is nice for bass speakers....not necessary on tweeters. But, that construction would indicate an intent to produce a 'better' product.

My last comment: There is nothing written in stone about some of this discussion. The Delco head of the 1970's was a mediocre performer, at best, in terms of sound quality, frequency reproduction, and [certainly] amp power. But, while many young folks think that you need 400 watt amps to get 'good sound' from a radio system, in reality, you only need a few watts of sound power to fill your interior with "old rock 'n' roll" sounds. Most of that high dollar amp/speaker/cable/etc. money is totally wasted...especially in something with such poor acoustics as the interior of an automobile. So, the Delco head is adequate, if you just want to listen to music as you're rockin' down the road. The Delco head with decent speakers...and a couple of extra speakers from what was installed at the factory...will sound even better.

Good luck with your project.
