So I'm curious as to those who are using the "correct" 1-1/4" bolt with pinch point and captured washer for their battery?
I actually ordered the "correct" part but it seems a bit short when I try and put it in. Yes my battery is not a period correct battery, it's a teeny, tiny bit too wide it would seem as the bracket sits too far back and the bolt won't grab. Is this an earthshattering problem, no, the replacement bolt I bought for 70 cents works just fine. I just wanted to know if I was the only one not getting mine to work.
My 'vette had no hold down bolt when I bought it, and when I saw how much they wanted for a new one, plus shipping, I did what you ended up doing: Went down to Home Depot and bought a bolt. Been happy about it ever since.
Looking at the picture i count what looks like 9 threds in 1/2 inch. I had mine out last week. I have the stock bolt but I had to make another hold down bracket.

I picked one up at Carlisle a couple of years ago for a couple of bucks and its the correct length (1-1/4"). Got it for the Pace Car that the PO, like others had the battery rolling around in the back.

Not me. My battery was also loose, I found the hold down clamp in the debris around the battery, but not the screw. I actually used the screw from the EGR valve (which was not functional, so I replaced it with a block-off plate using shorter screws.) It has the correct threads, but it is 1-1/2" long with a smaller diameter captive washer and full threads (no tapered point). It looks about the same as your replacement bolt. I don't see how a larger diameter washer, or fewer threads would have worked.
