halfshaft sizes (75 specific)
i just bought some parts from a guy who does a lot of resto work on corvettes. one part was a half shaft. he thought that 75s used the 2 1/2 diameters and since i hadn't looked under the back end lately i went along with him. well i got home and realized mine are the 3 inchers. considering my car was a theft recovery vehicle in which they stole at least the engine and transmission it wouldn't surprise me if the rearend was also taken and replaced with this unit. does anybody know which halfshafts were used on 75s? i don't know if this matters but the car is an auto trans
also is it ok to use 2 different sized shafts? just curious, i wouldn't really do it.
i only bought one of them because one of mine has a small dent in it and as a perfectionist it bugs me...

ok, let me rephrase the question. is there anybody out there who could check the diameter of their half shafts and tell me what the diameter is and what year your car is?

that's what the guy who sold it to me thought too.
thanks '75. this poor car. the only original parts are the body, frame, core support, and most parts behind the dash.
I've seen more than a few Corvettes over the years, with mismatched half shafts.
It's been my understanding that the 3 inchers, aren't any stronger than the smaller ones. I think that the larger diameter ones, were made from thinner wall material.
