Hood alignment Bumpers

Hood alignment Bumpers
My hood on my 81 is missing all but one of the hood alignment bumpers that go around the hood to keep it at the correct level.
A few questions.
I purchased 4 bumpers but they seem to be too tall.
Is that typical?
Do I essentially shave them down to the correct height or am I missing something here?
Any tricks?
The one that is there seems to have been glued in place and the new one looks like it is screwed in place. I would prefer to glue it rather than have to drill and screw them in.
The reason why there is only one might be because they were glued and not screwed. Any glue that would hold up to this all?

Do you need the bumpers? One may have been all that was required on the assembly line for your hood.
Yes. Most of the replacement bumpers need a bit of shaving to get the hood/fender alignment you want.
