Default where do you get yours

when you guys are doing a tune-up on the car, just wires/plugs/cap where do you get your stuff usually? online? or just go to the local advance auto/napa/type store.

Local generic outlets are fine provided you can get Corvette specific items (like plug wire) when you need them.

I go to NAPA. I don't go to the 'zone'. Some of the machining I've seen on Durajunk stuff is pitiful.

Plugs, wires, ignition parts, fuel parts, and most anything related to the engine and transmission I purchase from my Speed Shop. They are generally either a mid- to high-end race component or a universal name brand component (think Holley, Edelbrock, Accel, MSD, etc.).

Oil filters are WIX.

Belts and, joints, universals, and "regular" stuff I get from NAPA.

Corvette-specific parts are from your usual suspects...Zips, Ecklers, Corvette America, etc.

I like NAPA but I've become more and more heavily internet dependent. I generally find things cheaper online.

this was my thoughts, cheaper online. I think it was $77 alone for AC delco wires from advanced auto around here. where do you go online to get this stuff? I am also thinking about replaced the hubs, I'll probably get that stuff from napa.

I try to support the local stores even though I pay a little more but when I ask for a PWR steering belt for a 1971 corvette and the kid behind the counter has to ask who makes them, Chrysler? I have to walk out.

I agree with Mr. Greatsteaks. I really like that the folks at my NAPA know me and enjoy that I send them on these random little quests to find something that may (or may not) work for my car. They appreciate a departure from the monotony of looking up front brake rotors for 1999 Ford Taurii. And I appreciate discussing what I need to a human to whom I can hand something. That's worth a dollor or two more a part.

Same thing with my Speed Shop guy. He's saved me countless hundreds of dollars wasted at Summit/Jeg's through sharing his experience. The Summit/Jeg's guys don't want to SAVE you money...they'll happily take it from you. The extra $30 I paid for my BeCool radiator and the extra $4 (total) I pay for plugs are a VERY, VERY, VERY small price to pay for all the advice he gives me the once or twice a week I stop in and hang out for 30 or 45 minutes and chew the fat.

I support humans and hope they don't go anywhere anytime soon. This internet thing is great, but Mr. Internet doesn't give two poops about my car.

yeah true true, the one thing that drives me crazy is half the time they dont have the basic parts for my car in stock! when I replaced the belts, I had to go to 3 different advanced stores to get all 4 belts. today they had the plugs, but not the cap or rotor or wires. ugh

Nice thing about it being an 'on the side' project. I stop by NAPA on the way home from a meeting on Wednesday and let them know what I want/need.

90% of the time, it is there by lunch the next day.

100% of the time, it is there by Friday morning, ready for some music, a few beers, and a great time working on the car between 9 and midnight.

And the shipping is on them!

There is an art to purchasing things online. Ordering from Summit/Jegs is not doing your homework, IMO, in most cases.

I moved to FL in Sept., so I have yet to find a decent speed shop, but it would be nice to have a place where they know their stuff. A real human being and service is always worth the dollar.

I just call my local NAPA store by phone and order what I need. They tell me when it will be there....usually one or two days (not bad for parts on a 40+ year-old car); then pick it up with my next trip by the store. Very convenient, and I have a real person to talk to.

That is my experience with a local dedicated NAPA classic car guy. You have to realize that 95+% of their volume, and where the money flows, is not old Corvettes. But he can find what I need in 2-3 days.

Their oil filters are WIX and ignition parts are Echlin. Top quality. See Lars' paper on the best points and condensor. As to spark plug wires I make my own: Accel 8 mm.

Generally, I get mine in the bedroom. Sometimes at the barstools around the kitchen island.
They're just the right height for stand-up work.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Surprised I'm the first, given the lot that frequents this forum.

Pat Mason Racing Ignitions for the Vertex OAC cap and rotor. Sparkplugs, locally from Joe Amato's A&A Autoparts. Solid core stainless steel braided wires and Rajah terminals came from thehotrodcompany.com. Burnproof sleeves near the headers came from Amazon.com.

I tend to spread my $$$ around.
