My '71 has a non stock hood, but I got the stock hood when I purchased it. I am in the process of getting ready to switch so I ordered some trim pieces that I was missing. They go along the front end panel up against the windshield.
I was trying to place them last night, and noticed that the screw hole is there for the side of these pieces, but I cant find where I am suppose to put the clip.
this is the trim piece I am talking about, according to the AIM I think I know how it goes, but I think the previous owner trimmed back the fiberglass for some reason so now there is nowhere to clip these things to. I will post pictures of this spot tonight, until then, any ideas on what i can do?
There are a couple clips on the top edge of the fender and a screw on the inner side. Maybe Alan71 has some photos? I could post a few if necessary but won't be until late tonight.
There are two clips that hold the corner trim in place. There should be two holes that the clips lock into that keep them from sliding out while holding the trim. http://www.zip-corvette.com/ProductD...GR-SR&CTitle=&
I have the screws and the clips, I just am not sure where they clip onto. The area that I have available for them seems too thick on the fiberglass for these clips to go onto.
You can kind of see the clip here in the "didn't get removed before paint" picture
There are more clips along the wiper door, those might be thinner (don't know) than the ones on the fender?
The fender should have a hole for a u-clip where the fender top trim slips down into the hood opening. AIM will show a trim screw into the clip. You'll have to open the wiper door.
Thanks for the picture Mooser, my problem is now that someone either "removed" the portion of the fiberglass that the clip goes onto or put something behind it, or I am just crazy and it is fine. I did manage to find a picture that i had taken that shows the area.
If it is messed up, any ideas on how to get the trim attached?
FWIW: You need to line up that fender before worrying about getting the trim on it. What's the story here? Are you in the process of installing the front clip?
Not installing anything but the trim and the stock hood. I haven't touched any of the body. I know the hood, vents, and wiper door fit nicely when installed, i just wanted to complete the look with the side trim.
Hi,
Here's a picture that shows the holes the tabs on the bottom of the clips grab on to.
It looks to me like the 'lip' on EJ's fender has been 'modified', perhaps to match the rear of the long hood?
Regards,
Alan

I'm also in the middle of a conversion. Your problem is the same as mine. The corners of your fenders were "built up" to match the later year hood. You will need to do body work by grinding and shaping the excess?
Looks like the door linkage is still there. Has the front clip been changed? Do the fenders have egg crates? Wondering if the PO modified the fenders or may have installed a later year front clip..
I had to cut the fender corners off my car to repair the birdcage and then glass them back on after the repair. Upon doing that I bonded the gap between the fender surround and the inter cowl corner which is were the clips fit. I used a Dremel with a cutting disc to re-cut the gap for the clips.
Unfortunately after looking at it closer last night, it appears that it was not built up, but an attempt was made to sand it down to match the hood.
This is the only close up picture I have that includes the hood and the side. The hood is far shorter so someone attempted to make the sides match. My original hood is pretty beat up so I was planning on taking it in to get fixed up and repainted to match so I might see if the shop can also do a bit of glass work too. I would try.. but I have never worked with fiberglass before and am hesitant to try right now.
If the trim pieces look good placed on the fender lip and your only concern is the clip attachment an easy fix might be to epoxy them to the fender.
I was sort of thinking the same thing. From the photos it really does not look like much material is missing from the corners. You might have a better idea when you get the wiper door installed as to how thing will line up.
