Welcome to the forums!
Nice car, especially for the price!
My personal recomendation would be to pull the original motor, put it on the side, and buy a crate motor. Cheaper, easier, and less risk. Then, if you ever decide to put it back to numbers matching, you're free to do it.
This is the route I went when I restored my 69 Mustang and I didn't regret it.
When I sold the car, the orignal motor went with the deal.

Your biggest limitation will be the heads. Most guys here will definitely throw in their opinions on this particular option; but since you don't want to throw a ton of cash at this, try the Vortec head setup with the matching cam assembly.

Even with the 2 bolt main, you should still be in the 300hp ballpark for probably under 3 grand all in. Just my 2 cents of course - I'm sure you'll get lots of advice, the key here is to "sort through" all of the info and try to make an informed decision that meets all your requirements without breaking the bank. Good luck.

Thanks man. Yesterday I checked out Summit, some good stuff. I also have looked at a company out of Phoenix and some machine shops that are in state too. I will be comprising a list of exactly what I would like and then seeing who can do it the best. Sometimes you have to pay the $ to make sure it's right.

Keep the advice coming guys, I appreciate all of it.

I already strayed from "original" with the motor paint scheme, I removed the q-jet, the valve covers are different, and when the motor is done it will probably be #'s matching but certainly not stock.

Like I said, just looking to bring this car back so it runs solid, sounds good at idle and moving, and maybe turn a head.
Actually, what you said was,
My goal is to bring this car back to the way it looked when it rolled off the line.
It seems like your intent has changed since your first post last night.

Thanks, that's not a bad idea and I didn't think of that. Right now I could drop a a brand new engine right about 300 hp for 2k & change.

So for the enthusiasts out there, how big of an impact would that make if I were to ever sell the car? Would the impact be less if I were to include the original motor and parts in a sale?

Also, I believe my car is a 2 bolt main, but some of the crates offer 2 or 4 bolt main. The price difference is rough $500, no biggie. Does it make a difference? Can I put a 4 bolt main in my car? Should I put a 4 bolt main in the car?

Thanks in advance. Ttyl

You are correct. However, I think the interpretation from each of our points of view are different. I will know when my car is exactly the way I want my car to look, run, and sound. That's the beauty of all of us owning our own vettes, we can do to the car what we see in our mind as "perfect."

Good day man
