Reason: changing title for parts list
You will need to match the shifter to the transmission you end up with.... for instance a Muncie shifter probably will not fit a Saginaw trans. Post up your parts list, and I'm sure someone here has used almost the exact same setup.
in addition to the above "suggestions", the important thing to keep in mind (at least in the later c3s) is that the shifter mechanism is slightly off set toward the drivers side of the transmission. virtually all the OEM GM 4 speed shifter mechanisms will work, but using the correct mounting bracket (shifter to transmission) is the key. in addition, you will need to open the tunnel up on the left side to accommodate the shifter. it doesn't fit through any opening that might be there for the automatic (if there is any at all since it is cable connected), and don't forget the lower shift boot mounted to the tunnel.
All Corvettes I've seen have a bracket, bolted to the transmission crossmember, which the shifter mounts to. I've never seen a factory installation with the shifter mounted directly to the transmission.
There is an inner and outer boot. The inner, rubber, mounted to the tunnel over the shifter, outer, leather, attached to the console shift plate.
Do you have an AIM? This will tell you exactly what was used to mount the shifter for factory installed 4 speeds. I've never heard of any mods needing to be done to the tunnel other than situations where an automatic was installed.
I'm most familiar with 67 - 73 Corvettes. It may be possible the later years are a bit different?
