Default Learning lessons

I am just one part away from finishing the top end of my motor. A simple $1 part is holding me up. A darn rubber grommet!

So I have learned that when I order parts if there are gaskets, grommets, hardware, etc is to make sure I get all necessary parts in one shot.

Good lesson learned. "You don't know success until you have experienced failure."

P.S. I checked 6 local auto parts stores in my area to find this grommet and nothing. Finally had to call Trans Dapt and ask them for the specific grommet that would fit in their valve cover. Hopefully it arrives today.

I hate it when that happens, Jedi.

I spent a week waiting for four screws that were nowhere to be found. (Good thing it was snowing out.) Not at ACE, Lowes, Napa, Home Depot, O'Reilly's, nothing, nada, zilch. Had to order on line.

Another lesson learned: If doing an Interior Resto. Order all fasteners from Wilcox. Have all of what you need, labeled and in the bag. What a time saver that would have been. Live and learn.

It's always the smallest, inexpensive part that ends up being the hardest to find.

Delays like this are part of the fun (so they say).

Some of those valve cover grommets are still available from the dealer. I got both for my '81 last year.

For want of a nail, the shoe was lost.
For want of a shoe, the horse was lost.
For want of a horse, the rider was lost.
For want of a rider, the message was lost.
For want of the message, the battle was lost.
For want of the battle, the war was lost.
For want of the war, the kingdom was lost.
All for the want of a horseshoe nail.

Just a little something from my childhood that came to mind, thought I'd share it. Figured the metaphor is pretty obvious.

Keep the shiny side up!

I wish the vendor sites offered recommended kits for each part or accessory you order, this way you have the option to include it in the order or decline it before checking out. Everything is ala carte, nickel and dimed to death, but at least you have it to complete the job.

I hate when the day after placing an order for a ton of stuff to finish something, you go into the shop and discover (break) something else that really should be done at the same time (while I'm here) and it only cost a few bucks, but the shipping/handling will be 20 and it'll take a week or two to get here ()

1st world problems, need to wait a week to get my chrome part of the car I drive when it's nice out

I probably would have stood there and stared down that hole and wondered if that really just happened? Bumma!

I agree, but again a good lesson learned by me when ordering. Also, using a different vendor like MAMotors, Wilcox, etc could be better as their tech dept can give some insight. Always learning.

Still waiting on the console trim plate that I ordered in April for my '81. I'm told it won't be available until June.
