Original Corvette build sheet
As 7T1vette indicated, original Build Sheets (Tank Stickers) are not available for St. Louis built cars. There is a possibility that the original build sheet is still in the car, but if so, it will be VERY fragile and you need to carefully photograph it BEFORE attempting to remove it. (Do a Forum search, there will be several threads on removing tank stickers.)
However, if as your screen name indicates, you have a 1978, then a copy of the original Dealer SHIPPER document is available from GM. (1977 and later cars.) The SHIPPER document contains shipping dates, original dealer name and location, Regular Production Option (RPO) Codes, etc. The SHIPPER document has much the same information as the build sheet/tank sticker, and the information is sufficient to have a build sheet facsimile produced.
The SHIPPER document is available from the GM Heritage Center at:

The cost is $50 - I got mine years ago when they were gratis - times change. My tank sticker was pretty much intact when I dropped the gas tank, and the info on the tank sticker and the shipper matched. (photo below - sheet of paper on the gas tank is the build sheet (1981) - build sheets have been found in various locations on cars.)
Also available from GM (for free this time) is a pdf containing information about your year car. Background / Order Option information for dealer salesman and technical specifications about your year car GM supplied to the Motor Vehicle Manufacturer Association (MVMA).

Open the link, scroll down the page to "Corvette" and click on "show". A new page will open up, click on the the year desired, accept the usage agreement, and a pdf with information about your year car will download. Save this pdf for future reference.
The obvious places are, of course, tank, then behind speedo but guess where I found mine when I was least expecting it? Under the carpet on the passenger side. In all honesty it could be anywhere, I have heard of chassis rails, top of glove compartments you name it, have a good look, it may be in your car already.
Cheers, Dennis.
Start with the Allied-Vaughn folks and see if you can get a copy of your original dealer invoice. The invoice will have everything a build sheet would have, plus the additional information of prices, the original dealer's address, shipping info and dates, etc.
Good luck.

The shipper, dealer invoice copies do not include broadcast codes of key components and therefore limits ability to reconcile RPOs on the sheet with that installed on the vehicle. Broadcast codes are key to authenticity.
