I have a carpeted dash protector (made for the C3) that I use all the time to obviously to protect the dash from the sun....duh!. Anyway, I'm about to start the show season and was wondering should I leave it on the dash during a show or remove it? There's nothing wrong with the dash so it can go either way....Thoughts, comments & opinions??
I would take it off for a show ...
It's a great idea for protection , but before reading the post i scrolled down , looked at the pic and winced in pain thinking you carpeted the dash ...
Lol

I'll caution you with this disclaimer: Do not take the judging in these local car shows too seriously.
Many times the judging may not seem fair so don't be surprised or disappointed when awards are handed out.
Go to have fun and enjoy the car show season.
Take it off for the show. IMO, EVERYONE likes seeing the real dash.
My advice; don't sweat the judging. It's a mixed bag. Some shows have "professional" judges others are voted by the participants and other shows have judging by both the participants and spectators.
You'll take home some trinkets some days, and others you won't. No big deal.
I get a big kick just talking to the people and other car owners that want to stop and chat about my car or cars-in-general.
Best of All for me; I really enjoy the drive to and from the show.

As carpeted dashes go, that one looks pretty good. I think most people put them on not to protect from the sun, but to cover up a cracked up dash.
If your dash is good, I would just put up a sun visor in the windshield if it is going to be in the sun for a long time and not have to look at the furry dash pad.
To me it is like when old people used to put plastic covers on their furniture to protect it. Sure the couch underneath stays clean, but you are sitting on a crappy couch your whole life so what is the point of having a nice couch?
That is just me, so if you are happy with it on then that's all that matters, but I would definitely take it off at shows so people know you don't have a cracked dash.

BUT I enjoy car shows quite a lot..especially local shows for all cars... Nice relaxing way to spend a Saturday or Sunday surrounded by nice cars and generally a good bunch of people... Heck I even talk to the guys with the 5000 watt radios in their *** crap... Not my fault if they are out in left field as far as I am concerned ..
That said I sure do not enter any NCRS shows etc just not into that scene.. I could care less if one of my cars places first or last..

WAIT you may want to think about that because.....
Some works of caution:
As some of you know I work for a new car dealer. So I'm telling you this from experience. Last year we had a customer bring us in a car that had some odd spaced shiny spots on the dash. It almost looked like it was melted. The factory rep looked at the car an agreed to replace the dash under warranty. We replaced the dash. Low and behold the car comes back weeks later with the same condition in the same spots only worse. It turns out his windshield sun screen was the cause of the problem. The sun shade outter skin had separated from the inner insulation an acted like a magnifying glass. Where the skin separated actually lined up with the spots where the dash pad was melted. So if you decide to use one of those shields check it often to make sure it's in good shape otherwise instead of saving your dash it may destroy it.
PS - The manufacturer made good on the 2nd dash too..........but the owner had to donate his shield for reseach purposes.

True, I should explain. I hate what many cars shows have become, mostly brand new bone stock cars with a sprinkle of classics. A classic only show and I'm there. I much prefer cruise ins (no judging/trophies, just a BS'ing event) as of late.
