Default 1980 Dash pad installation.

When I opened the box it looked great. I thought it would go right in with maybe some tweeking like all reproduction parts need. I put it in and put the speedo in all went well.

Well today I figure I would put the center gauge console and shifter console in. 4 hours later I have nothing to show for my day except the glove box is back apart and the seedo is back out. I couldn't get the gauge bezel to line up right. Now any one that has put one of these in know that once you put a screw in and take it out, the screw hole is no good anymore because the screw goes into thin plastic and then foam. I had to put molleys in there they seemed to fix 2 of the holes and the other 2 I had to put strips of metal down the side and screw into them after I found some plastic to secure them to. So I get the gauge bezel in and turn the key on and the gauges go crazy. I take it back out and the printed circuit is shot. The contacts are peeling from where the connector goes into it. Time to order a printed circuit.

So I wasted my only day off this week.

Default Ouch.

I was just thinking that was my next project and was just thinking to ask someones experence with this all.

It looks easy enough but seems like so much can go wrong.

Would you do it again or have a pro do it?

Good luck with it all?

I would do it again. It needs some trimming and you will need a dremel tool to do it easily. Also it's not held on by much. It will take about an hour to take the old one out.

I wouldn't say it was wasted. You were able to work on your car. That is fun in itself and you fixed issues too. I say a day well spent.

I would say more like 2 steps forward and one step back. Typical of C3 work.
