Going through my vac system and found this in place of the windshield wiper vacuum switch:

there are two wires that run to this:

The vac hoses run to the 2nd picture and then 2 electrical wires run to the switch that's in the place of the windshield wiper vacuum switch. Has anyone ever observed this?

This is an interesting switch and or idea. Sorry, I dont recognize the switch, though I am tired of replacing the POS,Cheap vacuum windshield switchs on the market these days. My 70 hose looks different then the bottom hose on your second switch picture. I'll keep watching this thread.

Doesn't look like anything on my 72.
Does that black int move (press in)? or is it a proximity switch?

Default switch

I removed the switch and it is apparently in working order. I tested for continuity and it seems to be ok. The problem I have is determining if the vacuum switch they installed on the firewall (2nd picture) has the correct connections. Im considering removing these and replacing with correct windshield vac switch

What is the location of the switch in your first pic? I cannot tell where it it. It looks like the wiper limit switch, although it should show no exterior color.

Second switch is new to me too. It is shown in the AIM?

Mike,

The first switch is located exactly where the windshield wiper vac switch is normally mounted.

Did a previous owner convert the vacuum relay over to electric?

Default electric

so heres the problem. Ive traced all vac lines and they all seem to be connected properly. However, in regards to the windshield wiper vacuum switch, I have no idea.
Here's what I know about the electric switch setup. For the switch in this picture that has vacuum hoses connected to it,

it has a constant 12 v coming from it to the switch below.

When I remove the above switch and manually press and depress the button/switch, the wiper door will open (depressed) and close (pressed).

The problem is that when I use the override switch under the steering wheel or the windshield wiper switch, the door does not open. Ive checked the windshield wiper solenoid under the dash and it is good.

Both switches look to be added by a previous owner....and if the electric switch opens and closes the wiper door...maybe it was put there in lieu of the switch under the steering column as a substitute....my guess!

Google for a diagram of your vacuum system lines or purchase the diagram from one of the major vendors... I did for mine and it was really helpful. The AIM shows the routing too.

Good luck!

I agree that it was put there by the previous owner. I would just like to know how I can make it work for me.
