Default 1982 Distributor cover

The first time I saw that weird cover I thought it was a Bubba piece. Two questions...is 1982 the only year that had that and does anyone have a pic of a replacement for that? The stock piece really looks amateurish.

I believe that RFI sheild was used from 1980>82. I've never seen a replacement offered for sale.

Your right it isn't the best looking piece but it does get the job done.

Pic of my 82CE

The black grained plastic ignition shield, was used from 1978-1982. The 82 shield is slightly different than the 78-81 shield.

On the earlier shields, there are 2 "ears" that go down behind both heads on the engine, and shield the plug wires on both sides of the engine. The 82 uses the same plastic shield, but one of the "ears", is eliminated. At the moment, I forget which side is eliminated, but I think it's the left side one.

There is a stanless piece, that has been sold for years, that can be installed on top of the plastic shield. It was even in the Corvette Parts Book and could be ordered from Chevrolet. It was never a factory installed piece though.

Here is the cover in Corvette Centrals catalog.

25 years ago when i owned an '82, I installed and earlier C3 chrome cover. I was able to make it fit in place and it looked much better than the black piece.

Learn something new everyday....BTW the 82 sheild was shorter on the passenger side of the sheild...it did not extend as far towards the engine block.

I got rid of my stock one and don't use a shield at all, no problems.

Default Spark plug routing

Do the plug wires go in front of the shield or behind it?

The stock shield fits over the plug wires.

Ok so the wires go under the shield between the shield and the engine block.
Thanks
