well just when i thought my vette was Bubba free i came across this mess, took over 3 hours to get the t-top and windshield trim off the car without tearing something up.Bubba had to have used a whole tube of urethane and silicon to put the trim on.
He was just trying to get it to stop raining IN the car [because of that 'Swiss cheese' windshield frame...]
there is no major rust in the windshield frame. that's another layer of crappy sealer that looks like rust pits.i got it all cleaned out and the only rust spots i found was a little around the screw holes a little surface rust in one corner and few small spots here and there and they weren't even pitting yet,i was surprised.the frame is nice and solid, ill tgry and get some pics of it cleaned up.
@briankeery no i think im gonna leave the windshield in,it looks to me like a replacement windshield(not the right markings on it) and it cant be very old(maybe a couple years old)because the sealer holding it in is still sticky and soft.the sealer around the back window is hard.
@AdamMeh lol yea i have seen the form a part stunts on other cars, like news paper and duct tape to fill rust holes then bondo.
@73Corvette yea,i guess the term less is more never crossed their lips before
I'm pleased that the birdcage appears to be in good condition. After cleaning out that muck and re-sealing it, you shouldn't have any problems for many years.

No undue stress on that widshield....
yea i read up here before buying it,and i checked out all the major spots on the cage(behind the kick panels and stuff)that it said to look out for and it pretty solid. there's some rust scale in the passenger floor pan but no holes or major pitting so i think im good.
yes i actually got it all off with no damage(not even to my knuckles this time )it just needs a butt load of cleaning.i have seen many pictures that the rear molding is black and the front is polished,is this correct?the front trim on my car is stainless but someone painted it black.the back glass trim is aluminum painted black.what is correct for the 1979?
As I remember , both front and back moldings were black. The paint definitely came off my back trim from waxing it. I have given thought about having mine anodized black
I'll take a few pics of the exhaust system on my '76 before I take it off and install the new one. I don't know how he did it, it hits the shift linkage boot, the cross member and the idler arm. Amazingly enough, it doesn't touch either of the door handles.
Bubba at his best.
