Default 68 Convertible top header Molding - how to replace

I have an early 68 that I am working on and I secured replacement top header molding and the side pieces but once I got all of the interior trim off, screws etc the molding does not budge. Looking at replacement looks like there may be screws coming in from windshield side?? If so then the windshield molding has to be removed.

Does anyone have any experience with this? What am I missing

Hi b90,
You're right.
The pieces of trim at each end of windshield header went on before the windshield was installed.
It's quite chancy to try to remove the 2 forward screws on each side with the glass in place .... a few people are successful, but many nick the edge of the glass with pressure from the screwdriver's shaft, and develop a crack right then or later.
Sad but true!
Regards,
Alan

From my other post.. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-t...post1580601163

The stainless will come off without issue if you remove the two rivets in the rear and all the side screws...

However, the corners are a bit trickier... I always advise taking out the windshield but it is possible. Below is a copy of the short post that I did on this. I think if you search history for a few years back I did another post on the same subject.

"You can do it by cutting with a Dremel.. but when you go back get some of the hex head screws.. They will fit with some tweaking and you can tighten them with a wrench one tiny turn at a time.

Ask me how I know... One time my tech forgot to put the screws in the header before he glued in the windshield.... it will work.."

I just replaced my conv top corner moldings on my 68 with the new style since I was also replacing the A pillar covers and interior header panel and had the windshield removed since it needed to be replaced. Oh by the way the new corner molding dont like up worth a broke dick so now i have huge gaps between the stainless windshield trim and the edge of the new corners!!! No clue how to fix this

GC16968, The 68 windshield corner moldings are way different that the 69 -76 one's. I found out the same way. The 68 one's have a flatter arch to them. And the driver side has a gap to the stainless top piece when using the 69-76 one's. No one makes a repro of them, but someone makes a probably junk fitting china copy of Trim Parts excellant 69-76 piece. They could have made a 68 copy, but it is the "only one year" and we won't make any money on it, syndrome.
