I have found the windshield date code list in the search bar, but what lead time would have been normal for our 1971 coupe? How far ahead of the car`s build date should the glass be typically?
The NCRS considers up to 6 months as acceptable, but 1 to 3 months is more typical.
As with most dates on a Corvette, all of this is quite subjective.
My 81, built in early October 1981, has a windshield dated Sept 81, left door glass dated July 81, and the right door glass and rear window are both dated August 81. The glass t-tops are both dated May 81. I've owned the car since new, and all of the glass is original to the car.
We`re not planning to have the car judged, but for only a hundred bucks difference between a correct dated, or non-dated glass, it couldn`t hurt the value of the car to have the right one in there. And considering the amount of money we`re going to have to dump into this heap.... uhh, I mean.... lovingly embellish on this valuable classic... a hundred bucks is nothing!
Hi,
I believe the glass WAS etched with the mfg. logo and date code using a stencil.
I think it was the Astro Ventilation label that was silk-screened.
This is the windshield logo and date code from my 71. It's in the lower right hand corner; etched on the outside but read from the inside.
VT is December 1970 for a mid-January 1971 built car.
Regards,
Alan
