Default Side pipes - replacement

My '68 came with beautiful chrome side-pipes. Each pipe is in 4 parts.

- Pipe from the engine, the 90 degree elbow, long part of the pipe (covered by chrome heat shield, and the end chrome piece.

For some reason, the elbow piece which connects to the long side pipe, first had it's chrome finish distorted, and now it's rusting way.

What might be causing this?? And more importantly, does anyone recognize the manufacture, so that I can look into a replacement.

Those are Patriot performer side exhaust pipes, sold by Summit and a few other large retailers. Summit sells each part individually, but once you see how nice and shiny the new elbow is, your going to want to replace the entire setup. They arent all tht expensive either. Make sure you measure your present set, as the kits come in different lengths and can be a bit finicky to hook up to aftermarket headers.

Thanks Scott, I'm almost ready to move on replacing the pieces.

One question though, the elbow on one side discolored and then rusted much fast than that other side (which is still in decent shape). Could that be a result of a bad connection to the exhaust, maybe escaping air? Or just some fluke issue with the part itself?
