Default C3 Going back on Frame

On a Saturday morning I was watching one of the auto shows and noted that they were putting a C3 back on a frame. Well, they had a steel frame inside the Vette and used a lift to take it up and then down on the frame.

I copied this approach and built the frame out of wood and did the same thing with my lift. It works great. Also attached straps for safety as well!!

PS: I will list my jig in the for sale area. Will not need that now

Nicely done! Love the idea of the wheels on the jig.

I noticed the notches you have at the back edge of the door? Are you using different door handles? If so, what route are you going with it?

Another way to skin the cat.

For my 68 I wanted to separate the frame and body to clean and paint the frame and install new gas lines (stainless). I jacked the entire car up several feet and installed supports under the passenger and drivers floor pans. Also supports under the nose of the car, and also a support for the part of the body over the gas tank. The gas tank was out of the car. The engine and tranny were out of the car. Then I lowered the frame. The body remained stationary. I used a lot of jacks! Mostly bottle jacks. My main concern was that after lowering the car, when I went to jack the frame back up to attach to the body, it would have shifted and wouldn't line up. To make sure body and frame aligned as I mated them, I did 2 things (1) I got some long bolts maybe a foot long ,,where the radiator frame mounts to the chassis frame, I used the bolts to maintain the connection. (I didn't separate the front of the body and frame very much) The bolt shafts would help guide the very front of the car back into position. 2) The birdcage to frame alignment holes. This is what the factory used to align the frame to the body. I forget what diameter the holes are ...9/16?" Anyhow, what ever the diameter is, bar stock rods are not exactly the same diameter as the holes. I had a machine shop make accurately dimensioned rods. They are so closely toleranced that's it's a little fussy to get the alignment rod into the frame hole. Anyhow it went back perfectly. By The Way.......I did all this by myself. I had no one to help at any stage.

To make a long story short, for my 70, it's going to have to be the classical loft the body up and drop in on the frame. I have no hopes of dropping a body on a frame by myself. So I'll be trying to enlist helpers for this one.

Hey, good eye! I made the recesses like a C6. Shaved the doors, no handles, no locks.
I have installed AutoLoc Ultratouch units which when you touch the door, it pops the door open. I will be putting a rear view mirror camera in as well as backup sensors. It will have a 3rd break light. Going with a stinger hood. So I have two other hoods for sale as well. I have done a lot of Vetts the purist route. This one I am letting my creative side work with it. No baging however I will ghost it in. It will have ghost flames as well.
Fun fun.
