Are you sure you mean "hydraulic" transmission? Could you be referring to a "Hydra-matic" transmission? If so, Hydra-matic is the old division name for the automatic [car] transmissions produced by General Motors from the late 1930's and into the 1980's...before it was absorbed by PowerTrain division.

Hydra-matic Division made the early Hydra-matics (of course), PowerGlides, Turbo-Hydramatic 400's, 350's, 200-4R, 700R4, 4L60 thru 4L80, 4T60-4T80; and more recently with the electronic transmissions 4L60E -4L80E and 4T60E - 4T80E.

All are well designed and well produced transmissions. You just need to select the right model, depending on the engine type, vehicle type, usage of the vehicle, and whether it can support only the mechanical type of auto transmission or the electronic version.

For the 'average' Corvette, the 200-4R or the 700R4 transmission are preferable, as they have an "overdrive" range for highway driving. If the car has a high performance engine, either of those models can be used, but some of the components going into those transmissions need to be 'upgraded' to handle the additional stresses of that higher engine torque. There are many suppliers of automatic tranmissions for Corvettes and they have technical assistance folks that will help in selecting the proper unit and torque converter for your car.
