Yes the motor case is the ground, with the cased grounded apply 12 volts to one terminal on the end, the motor will turn one way, apply 12 volts to the other terminal and the motor turns the other way.
You can't confirm what is bad using the switch (since it could be the problem).
Use a separate jumper wire.
Could also be a broken wire between the door and frame.
Regards, Pete.

Sometimes the ground through the door hinge isn't good enough, its pretty easy to add a ground wier between the door and door frame. The window switches are in a terrible place, they collect all kinds of dirt and crap.

the orginal design depends on the door being grounded,
another poor design on a fiberglass car !
Run Gnd wires to each door motor, motor test is simple if grounded.
1 terminal 12volts for up
the other terminal 12v for down.
and yes there is a relay that delivers power to the switches,
when the key is in the on position.

NOTHING in a Corvette is "self-grounded". A good, solid ground wire/strap, of adequate size for the current being passed, is necessary for every electrical feature on the car. (...unless it is attached to the car's frame or birdcage, which requires its own grounding cable)
