Hey guys, kind of a dumb question on my part 
but I will ask anyways. What is the purpose of the heat riser valve. What years were they found on??? Big block or small block or both??? Thanks in advance for your time and help. BK3

As indicated in the above link, it appears to be not a great design and with age it freezes up. How many owners eliminate the valve completely???
