I'm a classic car enthusiast and armature restorer. I love rescuing the old classics and getting them back on the road. I owned a 1977 Corvette L82 back in the early 80's but thats been it until now. I just bought a 1982 CE I'm hoping to restore as best I can afford. I'm noticing Corvette replacement parts are a bit more pricey than most other cars.
Anyway, I'm going to be looking at restoring the interior first and noticed the seat covers come mostly with foam. I've done quite a few seat cover replacement jobs on mustangs and the likes, so how does this job compare? A lot tougher? Need special tools?
Also, most older cars have a particular weak point(s) where you've got to look close, what are the spots on the C3's?
Thanks

well first off, Welcome to the Forum!!! you have started out right 1. Bought a nice car and 2. you posted a picture. We love pictures.
I agree 100% with '75 if the bird cage and frame are rust free it is a really great start.
the seat covers and foam are easy. order the covers installed on new foam. the upper and lower seats just slide in the clam shell. There are a number of great vendors for the interior, Corvette america, Willcox, Mid-america, and Al Knoch just to name a few. I chose Al Knoch for my vette and it is top notch.
Be sitting down when you price the CE graphics package.
Yea looks like about $1,300 for the complete kit. WOW! Just a tad more than the kit for the Mach 1's I've done(a little over $100). Seat covers are a bit pricey as well. I have got seat covers for my mustangs for from $180 to $240 looks like about $900 for the CE, but hey, it's real leather!
CE interior is one year only and unique to the CE. OEM/NOS interior parts are extremely difficult to find and pricey if you happen to run across something. Be extremely careful with your hatch hinges and the glass. They are nearly impossible to replace.
If you pull the carpet you might want to put some insulation under there. I used hushmat and reflectix. It has kept the heat out and the interior is quieter.
These are truly beautiful cars and they deserve to be restored and protected. Enjoy your new ride!
