Not sure Roger. I found that video on YT and edited out the dumb comment at the end. I named it according to the original video. It doesn't sound to me like he's really building up much RPM, but is using the torque for the launch and then getting into it harder.
I go to the Pure Stock Shoot Out at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex in Stanton, Michigan every year in September. I am amazed at how well all the cars (with street tires no larger or wider than was available from the factory) hook up off the line. The Pennington orange, L88 automatic runs mid to low 11s with virtually no wheel spin off the line. There are a couple other L88, 4-speeds that run similar numbers.
The only competitive cars to the 1969 L88s are the COPO Camaros with aluminum 427s and the Ram Air 4 Firebirds. The Hemi Cudas and Darts are several 10ths slower.
This is a shot of the Pennington L88. Note the front end lift, the Firestone Wide Oval repo tires, and the lack of wheel spin.
