I have to mash my left foot hard to get into my lower gears. I have asked to have the clutch adjusted three times and charged. I seldom drive the Vette because of health problems. Does it need more adjustment or could it need a new clutch. Previous owner said he had a new clutch installed but who knows how long ago that was. The car is well kept and has always been garaged. It has 130,000 miles on the engine. Everything works well on the car except this. I have adjusted clutches before but I am unable now. The clutch doesn't start to engage till about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way down. Thanks, I"ll check back tomorrow. This could help others with a similar problem.
Roger I have about 1/4 to 1/2 free play, possibly a lil bit more. Thanks
I really need to go out and pull the cover off and try it to be sure so the knowing responders have a better picture of what's happening.
I'll start it engage the clutch an lift up to see when it moves. The main problem is by cramming to the floor It still has slight problems going into gear. Seems like if I had a lil more clutch it would be perfect without stressing my knee.

You could temporarily remove all the freeplay and see if that helps. If it does you could have worn or loose linkage parts. Corvettes don't do well with lost motion in the linkage.

The difference between great clutch pedal feel and hard shifting was about 1 full turn of the adjustments nuts. I was very surprised at that. Now it shifts soooooo smooth... love it.
I would imagine that a slightly worn part would make a big difference.

I think I misunderstood your question? There is little feeplay. As soon as I press on the clutch it is right there. What I meant was how far down I had to push before the clutch started to engage to shift. Sorry for that.
Here is a spin down test you might want to try. If you have the clutch adjusted up pretty tight at the top then you might have some linkage issues.
Thanks for that. I will take it to a recommended transmission shop instead of having it adjusted by my mechanic and the local Corvette retailer. I used to do this stuff myself but I'm getting old and screwed up my back so I have to depend on others. My mechanic has been good and reliable but me thinks he's not a trans guy. I know manuals aren't brain surgery but specialists usually know their stuff. It does grind a little sometimes putting it in reverse.
