Last year almost to the day I bought my wife an 82 collector. The car had a frame off restoration and a huge amount of $ put into it before I bought it. It was all there but really ran like sh**. Over the past year I have found melted sensor wires, shorted knock sensor, throttle body shafts worn out, wrong cam, bad fuel pump...and the list goes on. It's a wonder this thing ran at all. I have been fixing things as they come up one at a time. Yesterday I finally did the '85 fuel pump mod, and changed the TPS sensor. ( I found the old tps had gone bad and swapped with another one I had laying around ). Man what a difference! Idle is awesome, throttle response excellent. This thing actually will now smoke the tires! I knew it would and could run this good, It just takes everything working to spec. The car is now a pleasure to drive!

Tell me more about the fuel pump modification. Any pics? What was wrong with cam?

Reason: Put in more information
I'd be interested in hearing more about the mod myself. My 82 CE seems to have a dead spot/hesitation when accelerating. It generally happens when I'm just starting out sort of a spot where the engine almost acts like it is going to die.
The fuel pump mod is easy. Just get a fuel pump from a C4 with TPI. You can pull the sending unit out without dropping the tank on your 82. It takes patience, but it will come out. Just take your time and don't force anything. Replace the stock pump with the TPI pump, don't use crimp connectors, solder the wires and use heat shrink on the connections. Reinstall and fire it up. No more low fuel pressure issues. If you want a more indepth set of instructions, pm me.

The fuel pump mod is a good idea, but I think your problem may be a misadjusted TPS.

Truck RV cam, Comp cams told me that the car would never idle with the cam that had been installed when the rebuild occured. The car was running pretty good after I put the OEM new cam in, but at start up it ran crappy until it went into closed loop. Then it was acceptable but it would still occiliate 50 rpm at idle. Now it starts faster, is completely smooth during warm up and has zero hesitation upon acceleration. Wife just drove it following myself and a few friends to a car show about 35 miles away on the highway. She had no problem keeping up with the c-6's doing about 80 plus.
