My vote is go for it. Take your time and you can end up with a beautiful Vette.
My passion is restoration of Dodge Power Wagons. All my old iron now has Cummins Diesels. It took one complete winter to fabricate a new body for my 1943 Dodge Carryall. I all to well know what can be done with.......well less than good. I am retired and need long term projects. I have no interest in buying a beautiful running Vette. I want to build my own, so it takes a few years.....so what. Whats all this leading to..........
I am now working on a 73 Coupe that I paid less that the one your looking at. I knew the frame was bad, and it had a 305 engine, but it was complete along with some body cracks. I located a 61K mile 1980 that sideswiped the guard rails. The body was destroyed, but the frame is perfect as is the engine.
Today, I started to strip down the donor 80 and so far I only have 500 bucks more (total) invested that what your looking at.
I was not sure at first, but from what you all have said it seems well worth $700! Ill keep you posted on how this goes. As long as i get it before somebody else picks it up, there is plenty of time to decide what to do with it then.
Very hard to go wrong on any classic car for $700. Could be a great find!
Hope to see some photos of the potential buy!
Adam
Adam, It took me a few minutes to figure it out. If you look 86Vettez51 avatar (or where it should be) at the bottom of that box it says My Corvette Photos click on that and they come up.

Hard to tell what's missing (if anything) from those photos, but for $700 I'd be going for it
I'm a sucker for turning a big pile of nothing into something
I took a look at it today, and am going to be picking it up on Monday.
I did notice a couple things like one of the valve covers not being original, the wheels are aftermarket. Probably at least 90% complete.
Ill post some more picutures of it after i get it on Monday.

Thats super, I am happy for you. Keep in mind, anything can be fixed or made right. Especially if you can do the work. This will be a great project for you. Please keep us posted
I posted several pictures of the car after i picked it up yesterday. The pictures are under my album titled "73 Project car". The truck is also full of engine, tranny, hood, doors, bumper, etc. I did not see how to do the photobucket.
At this point , i am leaning towards parting it out, when i can get my money back for selling off a couple parts. Unless i were to sell it to somebody as is. I have an 86 vette and 78 pace car vette. Parting it out seems like a fun project itself.
Some things are just too good to be true,
I see many c3's and even more c4's for under a grand a lot,
Most are basket cases, big messes that are many times more rust and detritus than car,
The last few that come to mind,
Mike sold both a wrecked 78 mess for like 800.00 and a messed up 84 for like 1000,
these cars might have double their prices if parted out but the 69 I looked at before I found my car...Lol
It was gutted, a raw body and frame, I tried hard to find 500.00 in parts on it, it didn't even have a title.
on the other side of the coin for a few grand I see a few c3's and lots of c4's in driver condition, they need work lots of it but do run and drive.....but in most cases are just money pits waiting to be parted out...
A couple of things to consider. Does it have a clear title? Is it a number matching car? If so you want to try to move it as a complete project car. Either way you are going to do ok with it.
