Default 77 AC Compressor Bearing

My AC compressor bearing is making a noise and I am thinking about replacing the bearing in it before it totally goes out. How tough of a job is this? Any tips? Best place to buy the replacement bearing? Costs?

I assume it's the clutch bearing that spins when the ac is off ? It's not a difficult job, the bearing should be available next day from any parts store. You'll need to remove the belt, the center clutch hub may come off easily, if it's stuck, there's a hub puller that may be available for rent at a parts store. The clutch hub is held on by a large snap ring, you'll need a set large snap ring pliers, 90 degree tips may be necc. You shouldn't need to remove or discharge the a/c as it's usually easily accessable on top of the engine.

I buy all my a/c bearings and parts from these guys. They ship fast and cheaper than most places. Plus, they have parts nobody else carries, right down to small compressor parts. In your case, NAPA probably has the bearing you are looking for and may not be shipping charges. But these guys have other parts most places don't even list. Anyway, you're smart to do this because NOT changing the bearing will lead to a more expensive failure just like you said. I did the same thing in my DD last fall.
